inoqo joins the European Commission’s Environmental Footprint Technical Advisory Board

inoqo has been appointed to be a member of the Technical Advisory Board (TAB) of the Environmental Footprint (EF) by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment (DG ENV)

TAB, comprising representatives from EU Member States, public entities, individual experts, and organisations, advises the European Commission on Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) and Organisation Environmental Footprint (OEF) methods, offering scientific and technical expertise to the Commission. It guides the development of environmental footprint calculation methodologies for products, industrial processes, and organisations, including recommendations on new methodologies that may be adopted at the European level.

These methods form the foundation of the EU’s sustainability efforts, helping businesses quantify and communicate their environmental performance in a reliable and standardised manner. This includes providing guidance and expertise on the development of PEF category rules (PEFCR) and advancements in methodological approaches.

On behalf of inoqo, Dr. Bernhard Wohner, Head of Research, will actively contribute to two critical subgroups within TAB. The Agricultural Working Group (AWG) focuses on agriculture related LCA topics, both on the areas of LCI and LCIA modelling and to provide advice and expertise to the Commission. inoqo’s expertise in assessing the sustainability of food and beverage products will support the development of standardised rules for evaluating and reducing environmental impacts in the food and beverage industry. Additionally, Dr. Wohner will join the Data Working Group (DWG), which facilitates exchanges between developers of the EF database and LCA software providers.

As a key player in Product Impact Assessment solutions, inoqo recognises that collaboration is essential for addressing global sustainability challenges. By working alongside the European Commission and other leading experts, inoqo ensures that businesses in the food and beverage industry have the necessary tools and insights to assess, optimise, and effectively communicate their environmental footprint.

“This appointment is a strong testament to our expertise in the field and further strengthens our ability to shape upcoming EU regulations. It also ensures that our solution remains fully aligned with evolving EU regulatory requirements, providing our customers with a future-proof, compliant approach to impact assessment,” says inoqo CEO Markus Linder.

About Product Environmental Footprint (PEF)

The Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) methodology was introduced by the European Commission in 2013 to help businesses measure and communicate the environmental performance of their products in a reliable and standardised manner. Based on life cycle assessment (LCA), PEF establishes rules for assessing environmental impacts across a product’s life cycle, from raw material extraction to waste management. It builds upon global standards such as ISO 14040/44 and other relevant frameworks, providing specific modelling requirements to ensure accurate impact measurement
